DIY Spa Day By The Sea

Relaxing Bath on Spa Day

Seaweed Bath

Seaweed baths are known for their mineral-rich properties that help hydrate the skin, improve circulation, and promote detoxification. Here's how to create your own at-home seaweed bath.

What You Need:

Dried Seaweed: You can buy organic dried seaweed (such as bladder wrack or serrated wrack). Look for brands like Seaflora, Main Coast Sea Vegetables or Mountain Rose Herbs that provide wildcrafted, sustainably sourced seaweed.

Epsom Salt: This helps detoxify the body and relax muscles. It’s also great for enhancing the mineral benefits of seaweed. Dr Teals sells a “Deep Marine Sea Mineral Soak, Purify & Hydrate.

Essential Oils: For added relaxation and skin benefits, add a drop or two of lavender, rosemary, or eucalyptus essential oil to your bath.

After Bath Carrier Oil: Coconut oil or almond oil can be added to nourish the skin further after the bath.

Steps to Make a Seaweed Bath:

  1. Prepare the Seaweed: Soak the dried seaweed in warm water for 10-15 minutes. This will rehydrate it and release all its beneficial properties.

  2. Fill the Bath: While soaking the seaweed, fill your bath with warm water and add about 1-2 cups of Epsom salt.

  3. Add Essential Oils: Add a few drops of your preferred essential oil(s) to the bath to enhance the experience.

  4. Add Seaweed to the Bath: Once your seaweed has hydrated, add it to the bath. You can place the seaweed directly into the water or tie it in a cheesecloth pouch for easier cleanup.

  5. Relax and Soak: Soak in the bath for 20-30 minutes. Enjoy the soothing, mineral-rich experience while relaxing.

Seaweed Wrap

Seaweed wraps are fantastic for detoxifying, hydrating, and rejuvenating your skin. By using the natural minerals in seaweed, you can nourish and tone your body while also enjoying a soothing, spa-like experience.

What You Need:

  • Dried Seaweed: You can buy organic dried seaweed such as kelp or bladderwrack.

  • Warm Water: To rehydrate the seaweed.

  • Essential Oils: For added relaxation and skin benefits, you can add a few drops of essential oil like lavender, frankincense or sandalwood.

  • Plastic Wrap or Towels: To keep the seaweed in place during the wrap.

Steps to Make a Seaweed Wrap:

  1. Rehydrate the Seaweed: Soak the dried seaweed in warm water for 15-20 minutes to allow it to become soft and flexible.

  2. Prepare the Area: Lay a towel on the floor or bed to avoid mess.

  3. Apply the Seaweed: Spread the rehydrated seaweed evenly over the areas you want to target (e.g., arms, legs, or abdomen).

  4. Wrap and Relax: Use towels to secure the seaweed in place. Lie down and relax for 20-30 minutes.

  5. Rinse Off: After the treatment, rinse your body with warm water to remove any remaining seaweed. Pat your skin dry and follow with a moisturizer.

Seaweed Facial

A seaweed facial is an excellent way to deep clean, hydrate, and nourish your skin. Packed with antioxidants and minerals, this facial helps rejuvenate your skin and can even reduce signs of aging.

What You Need:

  • Seaweed Powder: You can find organic seaweed powder or kelp powder at health food stores or online. Brands like Mountain Rose Herbs offer organic powder options.

  • Aloe Vera Gel: Soothes and hydrates the skin, balancing the moisture levels.

  • Honey: A natural humectant that draws moisture into the skin and has anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Essential Oils (optional): A few drops of tea tree or rose oil can help with acne or improve skin elasticity.

Steps to Make a Seaweed Facial:

  1. Mix the Ingredients: In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of seaweed powder, 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel, and 1 teaspoon of honey. Add 1-2 drops of essential oils (optional) if desired.

  2. Apply the Mask: Using a clean applicator brush or your fingers, apply the mixture evenly to your face, avoiding the eye area.

  3. Relax: Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes while the ingredients work their magic.

  4. Rinse Off: Gently wash your face with warm water to remove the mask. Follow with your usual skincare routine, including a moisturizer.

Mud Wrap or Mask

A mud wrap can help detoxify, soothe, and nourish your skin. The mud used in spa treatments often contains minerals like magnesium, calcium, and sulfur, which promote skin health and circulation.

What You Need:

  • Natural Mud: Look for organic, mineral-rich muds like dead sea mud, rhassoul clay, or bentonite clay. These are available at stores like Mountain Rose Herbs or Aztec Secret .

  • Carrier Oils: To enhance the mud wrap’s hydrating properties, mix it with coconut oil or olive oil.

  • Essential Oils: Optional, but tea tree oil, lavender, or eucalyptus can be added to promote relaxation or soothe any irritation.

  • Towels or Plastic Wrap: To keep the mud in place while it dries.

Steps to Make a Mud Wrap:

  1. Prepare the Mud: In a bowl, mix the mud (about ½ cup of your chosen mud) with water or a carrier oil to make a thick paste. If you'd like to add essential oils, now’s the time to mix them in.

  2. Apply the Mud: Apply a thin layer of the mud to your body or targeted areas (like arms, legs, or back). You can use a brush or your hands to spread it evenly.

  3. Wrap and Relax: Once applied, wrap the area with a towel or plastic wrap to help keep the mud in place. If you're wrapping your whole body, you can also lie under a blanket to help retain heat.

  4. Wait and Rinse: Allow the mud to dry for 15-30 minutes. You’ll feel it tighten on your skin as it dries. Once the time is up, rinse off in a warm shower, massaging your skin gently to exfoliate.

  5. Moisturize: After the mud wrap, your skin may feel tight, so be sure to apply a hydrating moisturizer, such as coconut oil, shea butter, or an organic body lotion.
